frequently asked questions

do you guarantee there will be no hidden costs on our rental car hire?
Yes. All of our rates include GST (New Zealand sales tax), come with unlimited kilometers, and full insurance with an excess / deductible of $1500. The cost of all optional extras are stated when you book like snow chains, and ski racks.

are there charges for additional drivers?
No. You can nominate as many drivers as you wish so long as they are added to the rental agreement when you pick up your car.

how much does the collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance cost?

standard cover
This is included in the daily rate for all hires and provides full cover with an insurance excess of $1500. This means that in the event of an accident, irregardless of fault, the hirer is required to pay the first $1500 of any damage done to the vehicle.

full cover
This is the most comprehensive cover, for an extra $12 per day this reduces the standard insurance excess from $1500 to nil. This means that in the event of an accident, provided you have not violated the insurance terms and conditions, the full cost of the vehicle repairs, and any damage caused to third party property, will be borne by about® rental cars, and not the hirer.

do you offer after-hour car rental pickups and drop-offs?
Yes we do, however they are subject to prior arrangement and agreement. With after-hour pick ups, we do require that the Rental Agreement is signed and pre-paid in full 24 hours at least prior to your car hire pickup. Additional charges apply.

what happens if I cancel my booking, or return the rental car early?
We require you to give at least 7 days notification if you intend to cancel your booking. If you advise us in 7 days or less, we reserve the right to charge 20% cancellation fee. We do not offer any refund if you return your vehicle earlier than expected.

do you offer one-way car rentals?
Yes, we offer one-way rentals between all branch locations, subject to availability.

can I pay for my car hire with a credit card?
Yes you can. We accept all the major credit cards like Visa and Mastercard.

will I be charged a bond?
We do not charge a bond provided your car hire is secured or paid for by credit card. If you are unable to supply a creditcard a bond of up to $1500 may be required at the start of your hire. This bond can be paid by cash, eftpos or debit card.

can I use my overseas drivers licence?
Yes you can. As long as your drivers licence is printed in english. If not you will need to arrange an International Drivers Licence.
